“Where’s the Weight Room?” – For some reason during this year’s Winter Weekend Ski Trip this was a hot question – apparently an inside joke that only the mind of a teenager can really grasp. But, it does pose an interesting question about our spiritual fitness – as parents and adults, do we know where the Spiritual Weight Room is? 1 Timothy 4:7 encourages us to “…Spend your time and energy in training yourself for spiritual fitness.” So, how is our spiritual workout? And do our students see us as spiritually fit or as spiritual wimps?
If you are looking to strengthen your spiritual muscle here are some exercises to begin with:
1) Commit to working out daily – try spending 10-15 minutes alone with God each day.
2) Pray – not for stuff, but that the Holy Spirit might become your personal trainer, conforming your will to His.
3) Read the Bible – Condition your spiritual muscle by spending time in God’s Word regularly.
Remember, “Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is much more important, for it promises a reward in both this life and the next” (1 Timothy 4:8 – NLT). Show your students the way to the Spiritual Weight Room.
In Christ,
